Cashmere Care Gentle Wash
This care guide, together with our Cashmere Gentle Wash and Cashmere Comb, is designed to help you preserve the quality and integrity of your knitwear, so they can be cherished for years to come.
Our Cashmere Care Gentle Wash is especially formulated by KASMIRI to clean, nourish and protect your cashmere. It is skin-friendly and plant-based, so it is good for your hands, the planet and your cashmere. The Gentle Wash is also suitable for all pure wool garments.
Cashmere Care Tips
- Wash: Hand wash in cool water (max 20°C) with a gentle wash
- Dry: Lay flat on a towel, never hang or tumble dry
- Store: Fold in a breathable bag or in our Kasmiri box with cedar balls
- Pilling: Normal and reduces over time; use a cashmere comb
- Avoid: Machine wash, bleach, wool softeners, direct heat, or plastic bags
How to wash cashmere
Cashmere is breathable and has antibacterial properties, so you don’t need to wash your cashmere frequently. Cashmere scarves, wraps, and ponchos may need to be washed only once a season, as they are worn over clothes. Airing your cashmere in the fresh air away from sunlight is enough to keep your cashmere fresh between wears.
Hand wash in cold water using a clean bowl and a small amount of KASMIRI Gentle Wash. Next, submerge your cashmere in water for 5-10 minutes and gently massage the garment to remove dirt and oils. Take care not to rub, twist, wring or stretch as this can damage the delicate fibres.
Never use wool softeners. Wool softeners have harsh chemicals, leaving a synthetic residue on the fibres that makes cashmere feel stiff.
Once clean, rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear, and press the excess water out of the garment. Lay the piece on a clean white towel, and dry flat in the shade away from direct sunlight and heat.
For all KASMIRI pieces, we recommend handwashing, not dry cleaning. It's best to read the care label as it holds essential information for caring for your knitwear. Cashmere garments from different manufacturers may have varied care instructions. By adhering to these instructions, whether they suggest dry cleaning or handwashing, you will keep your cashmere in excellent shape.
HOW TO CARE FOR CASHMERE
Pilling will naturally occur as with all natural wools. This is expected for knitted pieces, especially and can be removed with a cashmere wool depilling comb. We recommend de-pilling once every 6 weeks to preserve the longevity and look of your cashmere piece.
Our woven cashmere pieces are tightly woven on looms and are denser and durable, offering long-lasting wear and resistance to pilling.
HOW TO STORE CASHMERE
Ensure your cashmere is clean and dry before storing it in a closet or drawer. It’s a good idea to fold and store it in our KASMIRI box or a breathable bag to prevent it from rubbing against other clothes and to safeguard against moths. Our KASMIRI Gentle Wash is scented with Himalayan Cedarwood Essential Oil and Lavender Essential Oil, helping to guard your cashmere against moths when you're not wearing it. Add cedarwood balls or lavender sachets and ensure these deterrents are fresh and effective. Regularly check your storage for signs of pests.
