Artisan Weaver from Nepal prepares loom for weaving a cashmere shawl for KASMIRIeavea

Cashmere Craftsmanship

Designing cashmere accessories and crafting these by hand is the heart and soul of what we do at KASMIRI. From weaving on the charkhas and flying shuttle looms to hand felting and dip-dyeing, we work with artisans, mainly women, who have impeccable skills acquired from a lifetime of learning, heritage, and culture.

From the raw cashmere fibres to our finished cashmere scarves, robes, and cashmere throw blankets, we carefully select our cashmere wool, ensuring beauty and longevity for all our products. Unlike fast fashion, our craftsmanship takes time to make the finest cashmere shawls and scarves, which is why we guarantee genuine quality products.

Weaving, dip-dyeing, and hand-felting are techniques passed down from generation to generation in Nepal. Kasmiri showcases these time-honoured techniques across its entire cashmere collection to offer distinctive cashmere scarves, shawls, and wraps that are guaranteed to steal the show.

Weaving

Before weaving, the warp is prepared by drafting. Drafting is the process of threading individual cashmere threads through small hooks and drafting them in a sequence to match the intended pattern to be woven. It's a long process that requires precision, coordination, and patience. Artisans thread in coordination to draft a curated pattern for our woven scarves and shawls before they are woven on looms. It takes time, and it is what makes each cashmere woven scarf and shawl distinctive.

Each woven scarf is made slowly and meticulously by hand, skills learned from generations passed, akin to wearing a piece of history

Dip-Dye

The cashmere scarf or shawl is hand-dipped into prepared dye vats, one section at a time. The artisan plays on the depth and duration of immersion to create the desired gradients. There are no rules, only individual mastery to perfect the desired shade.

Once the dyeing is complete, the cashmere is rinsed until the water runs clear, then dried in the open air to allow the colours to reveal their shades.

Hand-Felting

Hand-felting is the process of agitating the cashmere fibres by vigorously washing the cashmere scarves in hot water and cashmere shampoo. This binds the cashmere fibres for increased durability and softness. The process creates a delicate interplay of texture and light, adding depth and softness to the scarf.

Hand-felting is the traditional technique of binding the cashmere fibres for durability and a soft, ethereal look and feel

When you wear a Kasmiri handcrafted cashmere scarf or shawl, you are wearing something special; there's a story of how it was made, which makes the wearer feel special and connected to a greater purpose.

Every piece is exclusively made in Nepal—a country whose creativity, resilience, heritage, and culture inspire us.
